Breathing New Life into Vintage Kimono.

Maison AKANÉ breathes new life into vintage kimono and traditional textiles from across Japan, sharing their beauty with the world. Working with local artisans and research institutes, we plan and create upcycled products — clothing, bags, and more — from kimono fabric. Through international exhibitions and cross-border e-commerce, we bring both our upcycled products and vintage kimono from Japan to the world.

KIMONO Upcycle LAB

A joint project between "Chikage," a traditional costume rental shop that has long supported local heritage and culture, and "Kimono atelier Akané," which has been promoting the charm of kimonos to the world for a decade. We breathe new life into vintage kimonos, reviving them as contemporary upcycled fashion.

Born from the tailoring craftsmanship of Chikage Costume Rental and Akané's contemporary design, "Robe Kimono" is a one-of-a-kind, semi-custom dress made from vintage kimono fabric, tailored through the following three steps.

  1. 1. Choose Your SilhouetteSelect your favorite style from our designs, such as a stand collar or sleeveless cut.
  2. 2. Choose Your FabricEach dress is made from a different vintage kimono, so you can choose your favorite pattern from our current selection.
  3. 3. TailoringOnce your choices are finalized, your piece is carefully tailored by our artisans in Japan.
